This Is About Homesickness and What You Are Not Told About Coming Home.

7 other people and I right before my senior prom.

You graduated, you left home, and now you don't know where you belong. It is a common rhetoric amongst college students, "I no longer feel like I'm home when I go home, and I'm not home at college." It takes some time, but there is light at the end of this tunnel.

I truly do believe your college experience is based very heavily on your interactions with people. These people you encounter at college will be your new family. This new family will be the transitions that you will anchor to get over homesickness. College is hard sometimes, and it gets harder the closer it gets to being over, so hold on to your friends. I usually list out tips and tricks for things like this, but I don't feel the need to do this for this specific post. Being in constant contact with friends from home is nice, but all that does is hinder you vulnerable to feeling homesick.

So what I will suggest to you, as a friend, is be comfortable saying "Hi," first. Everyone is at least a little intimidated by a college, and everyone has an archetype of their college dream. They all want something and its vulnerability that will help you connect with these new people before anything else. So please, feel comfortable saying Hi first, and being honest. I just want you all to live your truths, and you will find a home. Home is where you feel love, and you can find love at whatever school you are at. All photos are mine.
