We all know about them, and we all know the stereotypes that are attached to them. I am talking about Greek Life. Also, each university is different. Here at my school, the greek circuit is much more different than at other larger schools in my opinion. It is a lot more inviting, and not as exclusive. Here is a link to all the chapters on my campus at Washburn.

I want to offer you some tips as to how to approach greek life if you are weary to join, or just plain curious about it! Taking a semester to see how the greek circuit functions is a great way to exploit the whole process and find out what you think, and answer some questions you may have! Also find out if you would enjoy it. It's can also serve as a good time to find out if it is not just an impulsive decision because you see other people doing it.

I don't want to be a person to tell you yes or no, but here are some things to consider.

1. It ain't free.

You better expect to drop a pretty penny each month to maintain membership, and if your a girl get ready for that to be a couple hundred bucks, if you're thinking about Panhellenic chapters. The other chapters that are not panhellenic are multicultural Greek chapters, and those are cheaper than the larger more well-known fraternities and sororities. They are mostly populated with people of color and other minority groups.

2. It's a time commitment.

Going Greek means having alot more time being taken up by the organization. Expect for there to alot of socials to attenf, formals, bonding events, and even lock in study nights. You are paying for all of this, so you probably want to take advantage of it.

3. Be ready to make new friends.

Whatever chapter you join, you will be meeting a lot of new people. You have to be open and accepting, these are your new brothers or sisters and you won't be besties with everyone, but you will be expected to hold your composure. You will also encounter alot of new people in other chapters! Going greek will bring you alot of new people into your life and it can be very exciting.

So please, go and explore what college has to offer, and enjoy your time.
